ABOUT MARKUS

A Versatile Artist, Composer, Musician,Teacher

Since birth, Markus was always interested in music.  He was first exposed to music at church. Markus began to learn piano by ear at the age of 8.  His elementary school music teacher recognized his talents and began to teach him the basics.

In middle school, he decided to join the school band and learn the alto saxophone. He played the saxophone throughout the rest of his middle school and high school years. While in high school, Markus found a love for brass and began writing and arranging marching band music.

After graduation, his love of music eventually caused him to pursue playing piano and keyboards exclusively. Markus began to play, record and compose for area gospel music groups, while also touring in and around Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, Dallas-Fort Worth and Nashville.

Longing for a formal education music, Markus moved to Dallas, to pursue a college degree in music.  He obtained a Bachelors and Masters degree in Jazz Studies – Piano Performance from The University of North Texas (UNT) award winning jazz program.

Since leaving UNT, Markus has been active in Dallas-FW area playing gigs, teaching, and composing music for media content. Take a look at his demo reel for his playing and compositions.
